Encouraging discipline in children

Here comes that magic word again: Discipline! I often hear parents say stuff like, ”I wish there was a quicker method of disciplining my child,” or ”Kevwe, if I ‘sound’ (spank) you now…” (A parent speaking to a child). Most Nigerian parents can relate to these phrases. Parents and guardians alike feel the need to compel or ‘control’ their children in a certain way before they ‘get out of hand.’ Making threats, yelling and in some cases, spanking, are the easiest ways of control for caretakers.
